Effect of Preharvest Application of MGC - 140 and GA3 on the Storability of ¢¥Fuyu¢¥ Persimmon (Disopyros kaki L .)

Abstract
Effects of preharvest application of MGC-140 and GA©ý on the fruit quality during cold storage were studied. In general, as storage period of the fruits contained in polyethylene bags continued, the ratio of CO©ü to O©ü contents within the bags increased. The greatest fruit firmness was found in GA©ý-treated fruits regardless of their storage period, suggesting that GA©ý treatment would be very effective for firmness of the stored persimmon fruits. However there was a tendency that the contents of soluble solids decreased as the storage period extended although the firmness was maintained constantly. In the statistical analysis of the major carotenoid contents present in the fruit peels, a significant difference was observed in the contents of cryptoxanthin between treatments of the regulators, while no difference in the content,; of lycopene and zeaxanthin. In addition the contents of cryptoxanthin were relatively greater than those of lycopene and zeaxanthin, and the contents of total pigments present in the stored fruit peels were lowest in GA©ý-treated fruits. In particular. a characteristic feature was that the contents of cryptoxanthin reduced but those of zeaxanthin increased as the storage period elapsed indicating that the cold storage of the ¢¥Fuyu¢¥ persimmon fruits in PE film bags influenced the changes in pigment contents.
